Oi

Another crunch at work. Not much overtime to be had this time except for my daily lunch hour. It really puts a cramp in the creative process but I did manage to finish "Because I Can". This is as close as I can get to cute and of course it has a devilish twist because I'm ornery like that. "Because I Can" features a tuxedo cat in a most familiar pose sitting atop a paper maché box that's decorated with a black & white kitty motif. Finding time to list it is another matter altogether. Hope you like him : )

MRSBO Story Book Victims - Humpty Dumpty

Once upon a time...Mrs Blathersby asked the children of the orphanage to tell their favorite Fairy Tale or Fable. And being that most of the unfortunates at the orphanage are mentally unsound their favorites stories all celebrate those with decidedly tragic or unhappy endings (at least their versions do). One of the stories told by the children is the story of the hapless Humpty Dumpty and his fall from the wall and the mess he made.

His widow was fined, you know, for the cost of the cleanup.

Hope in the Heart of Darkness

I just have to share this. This was made by Karen of idrawpix, our Mod at BWBA, and is sooo visually captivating, I personally think it's gallery-worthy.

The group plans to have a theme for each month with auctions for each posted anytime in the month prior, so all of January our group will be posting "Heart of Darkness" pieces, paying tribute to Valentines Day. Karen's is so striking I just have to post it here. Feast your eyeballs!

Humpty's Fall

Done with my next creation! Some of you know about my involvement with the delightfully twisted doll group Mrs. Blathersbys Orphanage for the Unattractive & Mentally Unsound (MRSBO). We have bimonthly themes and Decembers' is Victims of Nursery Ryhmes/Fairy Tales. My 'victim' is Humpty after the fall. So he sits, sadly and in pieces at the base of a wall. I used a real goose egg and carefully cut it apart then strengthened it with various compounds. There were two challenges with this particular sculpt; the first was sculpting his face on 3 separate pieces and the second was learning about casting resin to get the look of spilled egg white (-the trick is to allow it to cure a bit before pouring). I am really eggsited about the way it turned out.

Happy New Year!

Hope you are all blessed with a prosperous & healthy New Year. Of course, my New Years resolution is to post more often to my blog. We'll see how that goes ; )

Well now that all the fuss is dying down it's time to get back to the business of creating. I've got a few things in the works. Phil sold and when I removed his hat for shipping and tried on the tophat of the Ebeneezer Scrooge I currently have up on ebay, it suited him so well I'd wished I'd have done him as the Mad Hatter. Ah well, I believe I may just have to make another similar. The Mad Hatter is one of my all time favorite characters. Anyway, here's a peek at Ebeneezer.

My new ebay artists group BWBA (Because We Believe-Art) is off to a good start but creating it got me booted from the ornament group I was in. I thought it might but it had already been all planned out before that group restructured into an all-holiday group so at that point it was not a 'competing' group. Kinda' made me feel like I was being kicked out of church for not being 'faithful' enough. Oh well, I guess politics are everywhere & in everything we do. I personally think cross-promotion between groups benefits everyone. All the same I wish them well and have no hard feelings but I will miss the friends I made there.

Meanwhile...

I'm in the midst of my doll groups end-of-the-year (yes, I'm late she says sheepishly) challenge of Nursry Rhyme/Fairy Tale Victims. I have chosen "Humpty-After the Fall". It involves a real goose egg in pieces at the base of a wall. It was a real challenge sculpting parts of his face on three different pieces but I'm really pleased with the effect. Hope to post it this weekend.
